Just the right motivation you need when you feel low during weight loss

I can very well visualize your journey so far. You’ve been dunked in hard work for years, raising your career graph. Along the way, what also increases is the figure on the weighing scale and the inches on the waist that just refuse to show signs of turning downwards. And then there are temptations galore. Swear on God you have turned again to pick up that one more pastry and left your brain behind when you drove alone and all you could see and grab was that cheese laden burger because, well, no one could know! So what’s your plan to stay afloat on these choppy waters of temptations, lack of time and low motivation? Well, for starters, I’ve got you some quotes.

Oh! Quotes! Not again, you say? I’m not going to use the usual read-and-feel-good method. I’m sharing quotes that work for me in my journey towards losing weight. Whenever I feel low on motivation, when I see no results for the longest time and when the best option visible is to give up altogether, I know that one look at these quotes and I’m charged again. I look at them not as words, but experiences shared by those who tried, struggled, maybe failed, but never gave up and ultimately succeeded. Let me know which one you found the most appealing and I promise to bring in more.

It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.

Vince Lombardi
Who else would tell better than someone who led teams to NFL championships and Superbowl victories? He must have seen hundreds of players falling down, failing, making mistakes and yet, pulling themselves up from the rubble only to emerge victorious ultimately. Falling, failing, flailing is normal. Not rising is not. That’s just not how humans accomplish.

“I always felt that my greatest asset was not my physical ability, it was my mental ability.”

Bruce Jenner
Well, yeah! Those of you who count age as number of years, must know the opposite also holds true when with every passing year, you tend to make yourself feel older. Age is just a number. If a 50 year old film hero can flaunt his eight pack abs, why can’t you do? The mind usually plays its dirty games when it’s no in the mood. It does the other way round, when it wants you to do something forbidden. So keep in mind, losing weight is possible at any age. Getting that muscular physique is also possible at any age.

“When you’ve got something to prove, there’s nothing greater than a challenge”

Terry Bradshaw
And you don’t need someone else to prove to, you are enough. When your mind has put you down for that weight, when you’ve felt embarrassed at family functions where your belly has been poked fun at and when you see your classmates looking a decade younger and fitter, you challenge just yourself. Take it as a project that needs to be completed. Come what may. As though your life is dependent on it.  So when you finally succeed, you’ve rewarded yourself the best gift.

“Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better”

Pat Riley
Start small. Keep steady. Don’t give up. Ever. The benchmarks of excellence are your own. Keep a steady pace in exercising, keep a tab on your calorie intake, stay happy and sleep well. Weight loss never happens quickly, it should not, rather.

“It has to be hard so you’ll never ever forget.”

Bob Harper
Every time you face excruciating pain when you lift those weights, when you do those painful bench presses and squats, you curse yourself for beginning this pursuit of weight loss. But trust me, the harder it gets, the longer it stays. You will never forget in life this pain that you suffered in losing those bulges. So when you eventually lose that flab, you will think a thousand times before indulging in careless binges.

“Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can”

Arthur Ashe
I love this quote because it lets me be myself in my weight loss journey. Don’t wait for that new year, for a partner or for perfect whether. Just start being active. Jog, hop, skip, run, climb steps do anything that requires your body to move, wherever you are, whatever time of the day. Use the chair, the step, the heavy books or the mat. Just do it, man!

“If you take care of your body, it will take care of you”

Usher (Singer)
You don’t want to remember this quote lying on the hospital bed for lifestyle related ailments. Just like you invest in your company, in retirement plans and insurance, your body is your biggest investment. Take care of your body with discipline, eat well, stay active, be happy and positive and reap the benefits all your life. A healthy mind always dwells in a healthy body, didn’t our elders tell us that?

“Concentration can be cultivated. One can learn to exercise will power, discipline one’s body  and train one’s mind”

Anil Ambani
It’s all efforts, no less; and it’s possible if you’re determined. Stay focused, have unwavering will power that supports you to overcome temptation and doesn’t let you create excuses. In the battle of the mind vs the body, the mind wins. So what the mind sets its heart upon, triumphs!

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live”

Jim Rohn
Scary, eh? But an eye opener for sure. Take care of your body, keep a tab on your weight and health. You may be used to return policies for every purchase, but some things in life don’t come with replacement guarantees, our body being one of them. You don’t get a second chance if your health fails. And think of all the anguish you’ll be causing your loved ones. So some pain in exercising is better than the painful hospital stays, any day.

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”

Dolly Parton
Now that kind of sums up my quote-a-thin. No gain without pain. The muscles will ache, the eyes will track the sumptuous dishes laid out, the hands will twitch to pick up a sweet and the legs will meander towards the guilt street, but the strong willed person that you are, you will stay focused.

So today is not the day you give up. Today is the day you stand up. You got this.
